Obama to announce VP via text message { 0 }

The Obama campaign will anounce the Democratic nominee’s running mate via a text message to supporters’ cell phones. This is really an ingenious move. Obama’s online presence is staggering. He has reportedly been able to collect more names and email addresses than any other candidate.

And while the Internet will play a more substantial role in GOTV efforts in the future, mail and phones are still the way to go. (Along with knocking on doors, obviously.) That’s not a problem for addresses. Those change, but they don’t go away.

The same can’t be said for home phones. Home phone lines are slowly on their way out, and that makes it hard on pollsters and phone banks.

Sure, you can purchase cell phone numbers, but that’s still considered intrusive, and then there’s that whole Do Not Call thingamabob.

But this way, Obama can collect thousands of cell phone numbers to be used between now and election day.

What I’d do for the lis of Mississippi numbers…
