Now the DCCC is “racist”? { 0 }

Let’s take a trip back in time to the day of the special election between Congressman Travis Childers and Southaven Mayor Greg Davis.

Right of Mississippi broke the release of this mail piece by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

It was a boneheaded thing to do, as I said then. The claims were flimsy, at best. More than a few Democrats I know — people who had given time and money to help get Childers elected — were none too happy about the piece.

The main reason: It ran the risk of turning off white rural voters who were behind Childers.

Past that, it accomplished little. Childers had — and still has — a hell of a grassroots operation. He had widespread support in African American communities.

It was too much risk with little reward.

Flash forward to the present and the DCCC — which ain’t made up of a bunch of dummies, despite their boneheaded play on that one — has decided that it is easier to defend Childers than it is to defend another Democrat in a tight-race where the media markets are more expensive.

Therefore, the DCCC is reportedly putting $1M into Childers’ race. (H/T Sid Salter.)

All of that is grand, and it makes sense. It also shows how supportive the national party is being of conservative Democrats like Childers and former Gov. Ronnie Musgrove.

So how does Y’all Politics play it? By throwing down the race card, of course.

Ahh, somethings never change, do they?
