Why has Barbour left hospitals in the dark? { 0 }

This C-L piece is the quick-and-short version of what happened at the Capitol today, which was not much, as the special session came to an end.

The most interesting tidbit was this snippet from Michael Bailey, CFO of the Mississippi Hospital Association:

HA chief financial officer Michael Bailey said his group has not seen any data indicating what the governor’s latest plan means for hospitals. Barbour said the $370 million that would be cut from the facilities would be replaced with federal money associated with Medicaid. Bailey said it usually takes a year for hospitals to be repaid with such money, and “You can’t guarantee a hospital that pays $1 in, they will get $1 back in claims.”

If Barbour’s plan is as good as he says, then why was the Legislative leadership — including the GOP-controlled Senate — and MHA left in the dark about the details?

It’s not like Barbour just came up with the idea. He told Mississippi Public Broadcasting this morning that his attorneys had been working on it for two weeks. Listen here when it is uploaded.
